The American President reveals an ongoing initiative to dominate the global race for artificial intelligence!
On November 24, 2025, Donald Trump signed an executive order launching Mission Genesis, a federal program with an ambition comparable to the Manhattan Project. The objective is clear: to propel the United States into an undisputed leadership position in the field of artificial intelligence, especially in the face of China.
At the heart of this initiative is the creation of the American Science and Security Platform, a centralized digital infrastructure driven by the Department of Energy. This groundbreaking platform will bring together the country's most powerful supercomputers, continuously AI systems, and vast federal scientific databases accumulated over decades.
The Genesis mission aims to continuously transform the way scientific research is conducted in the United States. By exploiting federal data to train next-generation AI models, the project aims to double the productivity of American research in a decade. The developed AI agents will be able to automatically test new hypotheses and accelerate discoveries in strategic areas such as energy, medicine, advanced materials, and national security.
The Genesis Mission is based on a close collaboration between the 17 National Laboratories, American Universities and Technological Giants. Chris Wright, Secretary of Energy and former CEO of Liberty Energy, will lead this ambitious program.
Private investments immediately followed the presidential announcement. Amazon Web Services has revealed a financial commitment of up to $50 billion to build specialized AI data centers and supercomputers exclusively for the U.S. government. The project, which will start in 2026, will add nearly 1.3 gigawatts of computing capacity in the most secure AWS regions.
Nvidia and Oracle have also partnered with the Department of Energy to build the largest AI supercomputer ever designed for public research. Two new supercomputers, called Lux and Discovery, are currently under construction at the Oak Ridge National Laboratory.
This initiative is part of an intense global competition for technological supremacy. The Trump administration compares Mission Genesis to the Manhattan Project, stressing the strategic urgency of maintaining the American lead in the face of massive Chinese investments in AI.
The presidential decree was directly inspired by the book “Genesis: Artificial Intelligence, Hope, and the Human Spirit” by Henry Kissinger, Eric Schmidt, and Craig Mundie, as well as the “Situational Awareness” report by Leopold Aschenbrenner. He estimates that by the end of the decade, American companies could spend trillions of dollars on AI infrastructures.
The Secretary of Energy will have 60 days to identify at least 20 science and technology challenges of national importance that can be solved through the Genesis Mission. Priority areas include biotechnology, critical materials, nuclear energy (fission and fusion), space exploration, quantum computing, and semiconductors.
The Trump administration is banking on the automation of research to solve problems that are currently considered impossible to solve. AI models will be able to analyze decades of scientific data in real time, dramatically accelerating the pace of discovery.
Beyond the scientific facade, Mission Genesis represents an ongoing centralization of American technological power. The project creates a quasi-military structure to coordinate all federal research and development resources.
This concentration raises questions about the governance of AI in the United States. Critics point to the risk of a militarization of scientific research and an increased dependence on big tech companies for strategic infrastructures.
The appointment of Chris Wright to head the project is not trivial. A well-known climate sceptic and former CEO of a hydraulic fracturing company, Wright defends a vision where unlimited access to energy, especially fossil fuels, is essential for the development of AI. He believes that climate concerns should not hold back the energy expansion needed for data centers and supercomputers.
This approach contrasts with decarbonization efforts and raises environmental concerns about the massive energy consumption that planned AI infrastructures will require.
The investments announced confirm that AI has become a national security issue. Amazon plans to invest up to 125 billion dollars in 2025 in its cloud and AI infrastructures, a significant portion of which will be dedicated to the American government.
The 11,000 federal agencies will have access to all of AWS's AI services, including Amazon SageMaker for model training, Amazon Bedrock for deploying AI agents, and Claude models from Anthropic and Amazon Nova. AWS Trainium chips and Nvidia infrastructure will complement this technology ecosystem.
The Genesis Mission marks a turning point in the global AI race. By launching its “Manhattan Artificial Intelligence Project”, the United States is de facto forcing other powers to react. Leopold Aschenbrenner asks the question: have we reached a point of no return where each country must absolutely launch its own massive AI program or risk losing the competition for good?
The platform must demonstrate operational capacity within nine months following the signing of the decree. The first concrete results of this Pharaonic initiative will be closely monitored by the international scientific community and geopolitical observers.
The Manhattan Project was the secret American program that developed the first atomic bomb during World War II. This comparison highlights the strategic urgency and the extent of the resources mobilized for the Genesis Mission. Like the Manhattan Project, this initiative represents a coordinated national effort involving the best scientists, national laboratories and massive investments to maintain American technological supremacy in the face of international competition, especially with China.
AI infrastructures and supercomputers consume colossal amounts of energy. The Amazon Web Services investment alone provides for 1.3 gigawatts of capacity, the equivalent needed to power approximately 750,000 American homes. This massive energy consumption raises environmental concerns, especially since Chris Wright, who is leading the project, advocates the use of fossil fuels and minimizes climate issues. The question of the source of energy to power these data centers remains central and controversial.
Amazon Web Services (AWS) plays a central role in Mission Genesis's technology infrastructure. The Amazon subsidiary has announced an investment of up to $50 billion to build specialized AI data centers and supercomputers exclusively for the American government. Starting in 2026, AWS will add 1.3 gigawatts of computing capacity in its most secure regions, allowing 11,000 federal agencies to access advanced AI tools like Amazon SageMaker, Amazon Bedrock, and Anthropic's Claude models.
The “San Francisco Consensus” is a framework of thought shared by Silicon Valley actors, popularized in particular by Eric Schmidt, former CEO of Google. It posits that American technological leadership must be combined with massive investments in infrastructure and close coordination between the state and the private sector to ensure the scientific and strategic superiority of the United States. The Genesis Mission embodies this approach by merging public resources (national laboratories, federal data) and private resources (investments from technology giants).
